I am attempting to simplify my system administration life by consolidating services to things that are more convenient to manage. Keeping a whole server alive with constant updates when not many people use it is becoming a bit too difficult, so I’m going to kill off this forum in favor of emails or chat via Discord. The Discord service is available for people who have been moved over to the new learncodethehardway.com server, and will soon open for everyone. For people who don’t like discord or can’t access it you can email me at help@learncodethehardway.com any time. I’ll be closing this forum on Mon, the 8th of October, 2023.

This topic will be for the subject of video games in any language. I (Zed) will be posting here as I also learn to do video games in the retro game style (think Nintendo, Commodor 64, Atari, etc.). I’ll be posting as I learn, and if you’re working on a game you can do the same thing.

This is where you can ask for help with using Vim, or post your own tricks and things you learned about Vim. Zed will also announce new Seminars as they are available to the school participants.

The gallery is where you can post work you’ve done so other people can see it. You can get feedback on your work, or just post for people to see. Every accomplishment, no matter how small and beginner, is worthy of praise and posting here, and anyone who says they do not want criticism shouldn’t be criticized. If you’re looking for critiques then let everyone know, and don’t take what they say personally.

As I work on books I’ll be posting the exercises and samples, or things people can try here. This is where you can try out free material and follow along with new books and exercises before they are in print. Being that they are development they’re probably going to have errors. You can also request new things in the books.

This is where you can get general tech support with your computer. You can ask for help with things like installing software, configuring software, random system bugs, how to use Windows or Linux, and setting up developer tools.

Welcome to Accountability & Mentorship, where every week we’ll start a thread for people to keep each other accountable for working through your self-education. You do not have to work on any specific book or programming language, but keep the topic to your programming study progress. Please try not to treat this as free therapy sessions and instead use it to get advice and idea from others who are working on the same thing as you.
