Ex 35 - i type in the same thing twice and different responses. so confused?

I’m working on ex 35 and when trying to go from the bear room to the gold room i get different responses if i type the SAME THING twice.

First time - I got no idea what that means
Second time - the response that should come in the code

Any thoughts or help? This is driving me a little nuts!
